Information on Smith & Wesson firearms
I suppose because I'm co-author of Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson and active in the S&W Collectors Association (and because I love Smiths!) I get a lot of questions about S&W's via email.
If I know the answer off the top of my head, I'll try to give you a quick reply. However, most of the time, I won't know the answer. If I knew it, it'd be in our book. Also, I'm much better on the antique S&W's (especially top-breaks) than on hand ejectors & auto pistols.
Here's some ways you can research your questions:
* Look in Standard Catalog of S&W by Richard Nahas & myself. This has good info for most general collector information. It is helpful for model identification & value estimates.
* Look in Roy Jinks' book History of S&W, and for early guns in S&W 1857 to 1945 by Neal & Jinks. Roy Jinks is the Official Factory Historian of S&W, and his books are definitive.
* Ask your question at the Smith & Wesson online forum: http://smith-wessonforum.com Lots of knowledgeable guys follow that board & are glad to help with questions.
* If you are a serious S&W collector, consider joining the S&W Collectors Assoc. A major benefit of membership is that you can participate in the members-only online S&WCA forum. Roy Jinks and many other S&W experts are regular participants and glad to tackle questions from fellow members.
* If you are interested in browsing photos, descriptions & prices realized of some rare S&W's, check out the results of our Oct. 2003 auction at http://ArmsBid.com
